In some very minor sections of the trail before or after intersections is the gravel a little deeper that you could even see my tread marks (it was very dry). The DCNR has a great map that has distance in miles from one point to an other and has a lot of information. The Pine Creek Rail Trail is groomed for xc skiing during the winter months. The following day we headed south for about 12 miles and took in the scenery along the Pine Creek. There are several gates on the trail to ride around, but the trail itself is so impressive that the gates did not deter from a great scenic ride. Most of the trail is quiet and free of road noise and the villages you pass through are tiny. Follow the trail upstream for a few hundred yards to the base of this impressive waterfall. Stayed at the PennWellsHotel in Wellsboro. Scenic forest vistas can have spectacular views, but they are particularly attractive to basking reptiles. All the other people we passed were very pleasant and followed good bike etiquette. Pump water is "not tested". South of there, there are no stores or vending machines until you reach Blackwell. No real challenges here. There are places just off the trail for food on this half. If you have your own bike, one great option is to have them shuttle your car to your finishing point. The scenery was perfect, and we saw wildlife all along the way. The scenery was beautiful and varied, and the trail was in good condition. Hotels and bed and breakfasts can be found in a few places along the trail including Cedar Run, Slate Run, and Waterville. There are many trail parking areas along the way. looking forward to going back and exploring more! This town is like a trip back in time, very friendly people, nobody in a hurry, little shops, and beautiful gas street lamps lining the entire main street. The remoteness of the Pine Creek Rail Trail is much of the appeal, but it can also make it difficult if you are trying to find lodging on the Pine Creek Rail Trail. We rode about 30 miles on subseqient days. The Cedar Run Inn was charming and would have also been a good option for our overnight stay. What a beautiful ride! Cedar Run was one of several quick stops on the way back to Slate Run. O and there were very friendly bikers all along the trail. In Ansonia, there is a place called Pine Creek Outfitters that has everything from kayak and whitewater rafting trips to providing a shuttle back to the beginning of the trail if you are too tired to make it back. There are some good places to eat in the area I highly recommend the The Burnin' Barrel Bar along Route 6 just before the turn off to rt 362 that goes to the Darlin run parking area. The best part about biking to the Rattlesnake Rock Access Area is the opportunity to check out Rattlesnake Rock. during a two day trip that took a little over 16 hours to complete. From this point, you are only one mile north of Blackwell, a small community in the PA Grand Canyon. You will need sun screen as there are a few long stretches with no canopy at all. If water levels are high, this creek is impressive as it cascades 75 feet or so down the hillside. We rode this trail from the north end, down 20 some miles. As you travel around the corner, look across the creek to a small stream that tumbles down the hill into Pine Island Run. Sitting 17.2 miles south of the Ansonia Access Area, the Blackwell Access Area is a great place to end your bike ride on the Pine Creek Rail Trail. We started at Cedar Creek Inn, a quaint (as in shared shower) B&B, which is just about halfway. The trail was so great and the weather absolutely beautiful that we continued past Cammal to Black Walnut Bottom. What a beautiful trail. It is a great trail if you are looking for an easy ride with low traffic, hardly any grade to speak of and wonderful views. The trail is for all levels of bikers. Family friendly.
